Well recently I've been called to do chalkboard art for my previous place of employment; Joe's Crab Shack! My first work (not posted) was done in regular sidewalk chalk, and it sucked. The picture was all grainy and smudged all gross, but these other two were a complete improvement! I've been visiting other chalkboard artists websites and doing some research, and I would love to have this as a side job. But I also found these awesome Chalk Ink markers that don't smudge and they're like $6 a marker! Sheesh! It's like get serious or go home lol. Well here is my artwork, hopefully I can continue this work.

Summer 2011 Joe's Crab Shack has awesome steampots (The Diablo is my favorite), and Live Crawfish (yuck!) Enjoy.

I know, I know, I said I would be working on drawing animals, but my dogs kept moving and I realized that they're pretty hard. But I'll still doodle them for now. What I do have to offer is a bunch of pictures I found on sexypeople.com and drew some 5-10min sketches of them. These are the ones I have kept, the rest were just sad. Enjoy.

And finally this one (below) is my boyfriend, I didn't want to put up and actual picture of him so this is all you'll see. Well come to think of it I might have a picture of him on an older post.....maybe. anyhoo, I believe I made his face too round and his eyebrows too close to his eyes, but whatever, I haven't drawn in ages! And I drew him out of the corner of my eye while he was playing video games, I don't think he would comply otherwise.

So, all-in-all I would call these "park-sketches", quick and simple. I don't have work 'till later this evening so maybe I'll draw some animals or something.

To hone a hobby

If you have been reading then yes I am sill working at a restaurant with poor customer attendance. But I have put in several applications elsewhere. The pet store down the street seemed promising, the manager reviewed my application when I turned it in and said my schedule fit to what he was looking for. I even had a dream of working there, and not an aspirational - god I hope I get it - kind of dream, but an actual fell asleep and remember driving around with made-up employees getting non-job related work done. It was weird to say the least. But now lets get to the subject of this post - my future hobby. By my lack of posts you may not know I was a caricature artist, just someone decently good at drawing, but I was. Too many times have I attempted to draw amazing caricatures to post but end up hating them and stowing them in the trash. I'm a bit rusty when it comes to.....any kind of drawing. Well while I was talking to the manager I was also imagining me selling caricatures of the pets of my future/non-existent customers at said pet store. So much so that I forgot the name of the manager I am suppose to call back in a week to see if I got the job.

But anyhoo, drawing animals! I love to do that.

Omg, I just heard a noise at my door and I'm home alone.

Okay it was the apartment putting notes in all the doors.....saying that there's been a spree of crimes happening right under our noses! Now I'm scared to go outside.

So, I'll just talk about drawing animals, like turtles and fish and cows and dogs and cats and giraffes and birds and cheetahs and snails and lizards and mice and snakes and ferrets and bugs and deer and bears and opossums and monkeys and flamingos and whatever!

And then you might be saying, 'well as evidence of your last post I don't think you have the talent to actually draw a decent animal picture let alone sell one to some poor customer.'

And the I might be saying, 'well screw you. it's a harmless hobby maybe you should get one yourself instead of criticizing me.'

Oh yeah I've also been looking around to work as a nursing assistant though an externship program or a phlebotomist. So next time you donate blood you can think of me! Possibly. I'll let you know about that one. Well you could think, 'I know someone who wants to do this.' Yeah.

Day from good to bad to realizing I need a new job

I have to be at work 1030am, and that's not a problem for me because I am a morning person. But last night I went to bed around 2am meaning I woke up at 1025am. I have surpassed my record of getting ready and in my car of around 10min to only 3min. Yes I brushed my teeth and didn't forget to bring anything with me, but I did forget my deodorant. It happens. Amazingly I made it to work at 1041am, and instead of receiving a mini-lecture on the importance of punctuality (like most places of business should), I was congratulated on an impressive time. After opening for my shift I was then given egg, bacon, and cheese on an english muffin (a great way to start any day). For those of you just stumbeling upon my site I work in a -would be busy if we weren't in a crappy location - restaurant. So this is the extent of my good day. As the shift goes on our manager keeps adding to a list of things we have run out of to serve, including straws, tilapia, lobster, side orders of shrimp or corn and kids pizzas. This hadn't really effected my day because none of my customers ordered these items. Yet for some reason none of them brought in a new years cheer when I went to greet them, half of them refused to look at me when I took their orders, only looking at each other or the things on the table. So not the first time I've had difficult customers, I mean come on! I make $2.15 and hour, I'm trying to be your friend so I can get enough tips to meet minimum wage at least, while giving a percent to the host and bartender, sheesh! Anyhoo, it seemed like all of my tables were difficult. I was yelled at by an old man who said if he couldn't read the tab (because we have crappy printers with grey ink) then he wouldn't pay for the meal. Just ask your son to read it for you! I went to print it out again but he had already paid with a gift card then left. Okay so whatever, I was nice and punctual, he was just mad that his eyes don't function properly. And so the day went on, I got a couple of young couples and as previous experience has led me to believe that they wouldn't tip decently, they proved me right. I'm on my last table of the evening, again their appearance is registered in my mind that they will not tip well (and I have been proven wrong before so I never actually treat my tables different from one another), and with only three people there and three appetizers ordered they tell me that they are waiting on one other person. They had sat there for about 45min (usually the time when a table arrives, eats, then leaves) when their fourth person arrived. Ordered. Then ate really slowly. Again this was a table who had a hard time making eye contact with me when either of us was talking. (I don't think I had something on my face). They paid half with a gift card and half cash on an $85 tab. Their tip, $5. What upset me the most, was the extremely large wad of cash he pulled out and counted in front of me. Ignorant. So I arrived home $25 richer for eight hours of labor.

So here I am depressed about my job and the people that eat there complaining to whomever read this far. Ha

I have a day off tomorrow and I plan to dedicate it to finding a new job.

Update: While at work that day I decided to draw my dog Emory. She's a brat but I love her. And the other is Juniper, she's cool too.

Dear Me,

You suck. I mean come on! You haven’t posted something since 2009. I think you should have automatically been deleted from the blog world for such a long absence under the assumption that you died. And don’t you dare call this a new years’ resolution, because you and I both know how that will turn out. You’ll get home from school or work and say that you’re too exhausted to update but all you’ll do is occupy yourself with the Sims. Lame –o. So as of now you will post some of your unfinished work, and by unfinished I mean not all fancy edited through photoshop or finely painted on a canvas. Just your dumb little doodles that have page lines through them. Sound fair? And when you do draw or make something new, post it immediately. Because even when you do get around to using photoshop, you’re no pro at it and you’re never fully satisfied with the edges or the darkness or whatever little thing there is and you don’t post.

And now you’re ranting.

1st Joe

Yeah this was the first "Joe" I created in my Political Science class. As you can tell he's not as fat as my new Joe, but still worth showing. Plus.... I've been learning to color in photoshop! If you look at all my other characters you'll deffinently be able to see the progress lol.

This is Joe on my notes: pen and highlighter only.

Back and White: Took a while to remove all the colors and bumps.

And now the color.... not as bold as pen, but much smoother.

Anyhoo, here's an update, colored it on photoshop. But maybe I'll color it again later cuz I still don't know any proper way to color things. Enjoy.

Whats Growing?

So thanks to my wonderful boyfriend I've decided to start growing some plants of my own. Yes I'm still drawing, and yes I have things to post but with all my school, I have a hard time working on my pictures. As for plants, I've only got to water them every so often and they take care of the rest. Without further adeu....

Yeah I'm on a roll! lol Just messing with the smudge tool. But it's just one color smudging, so nothing special like shadows or nothing. Plus I used highlighter to color her.

This is Joe's Wife.... hence the title. Anyhoo, I've decided to just go black and white for now. Eventually I'll give her color once I learn all about it. I'm open for any tips... but keep in mind, I've only got Photoshop 7.0 (don't laugh). It works so what's it matter?

I should be working on my Anatomy chapter outline.... but everyone needs a break once in a while right? See yall next time!

Alright!!!! Last Joe expression. Well, I'm pretty new to photoshop so this is all learn as I go. Eventually I'll learn to put in colors from photoshop and not just try and fix up my own colors.

Alright! Just a bunch of stuff that I don't know when else to put up... except now. So enjoy. this is a sketch i drew in one of my classes last semester with a ballpoint pen.
This was my art project part A. It involved one shape (triangle) overlapping and flowing off the page. I used acrylic paint (just black and white or a mixture of the two) that's why it looks so shiny. I suppose I went at this with a more geometrical pattern rather than a compulsive one. The lines of symmetry lie diagonally, but the different shades skew that symmetry even further.This one was part B. Where we needed to take our single shape and create a solid form. I decided to create an almost spindle-shape form from the triangles which rested on a sheet of floating paper (giving it a sence of space), also having the original picture (part A) on that paper. I also used acrylic here, but the flash from my camera made the gradient background look all wonky.

Finally, my still life. Our objective was to bring in objects to create our own still life and convert that into cubism. This has been my first crack at cubisim so I'm not expecting too much out of it. For this I used charcol and water.

Life Update

Hello again! I've just started another semester at Texas State and I'm lovin' it! So my classes are as follow; Anatomy & Physiology II (w/ lab), Microbiology (w/ lab), Political Science II, and Philosophy. I'm not one for posi, but the professor relates all her lectures with music so I think this'll be a good class. If anyone passes this blog and wants to talk about any of these subjects I'd be more than happy to!
